AFRICANATUBE is a social networking site, which was founded in 2009 by AFRICANATUNE NETWORKS. As of February 15, AFRICANATUBE beta test version was successfully launched to attract millions of internet users.
OVERVIEW
In AFRICANATUBE, users create an online profile in order to show information such as interests, age and hometown and upload user pictures where users can post comments. AFRICANATUBE also allows the user to create personal photo albums and set up a music player in the profile. Users can also send friend requests via e-mail to other users. When a person receives a friend request, he or she may accept or decline it, or block the user altogether. If the user accepts another user as a friend, the two will be connected directly or in the 1st degree. The user will then appear on the person's friend list and vice-versa. Some users opt to make their profiles available for everyone on AFRICANATUBE to view. Other users exercise the option to make their profile viewable only to those people who are in their network. The network of friends consists of a user's direct friends (1st degree), the friends of those direct friends (2nd degree) and the friends of the friends of direct friends (3rd degree). In addition to the above, users can also upload videos, add discussion forums, add blogs, add events, or invite their friends for a little chat via the chat module embedded in their profile.
CLASSIFICATION
AFRICANATUBE is similar to other social networking sites. Each profile must include two specific modules, a comment wall where other users can leave a message, and a list of the user's friends accessed via the Friends directly under profile name located on the far right side of the screen (right panel). Users can select from many more modules to add. By default, when an account is created the profile is private, which limits access to friends specifically added. The user may select the "Public Profile" option so as the profile will still be visible to any other members of a school they may have joined. Profiles may be personalized by a design template that is the background of the user's profile, known as a theme. Profiles include photo albums which allow users to upload an unlimited number of images with no limit per album, blogs with a comment section, a list of music that the user has added. Members can view the recent changes friends have made to their homepage from the 'Home' menu. These changes can include uploaded photos, updated music and newly added videos and friends.

The setting of ‘Members’ means that profiles are seen only by anyone who has registered at AFRICANATUBE. The setting of ‘My Friends Only’ means that profiles are viewable only by direct friends.
